Prompt: Share a lesson you wish you had learned earlier in life.
“When the student is ready, the teacher will appear” – Lao Tzu
If I could go back in time and tell a younger version of myself some words of wisdom about life that could have made things easier, would things be different today?
It’s a bit complicated, isn’t it?
In my youth, like many… I knew everything. In mid life, I know nothing. Because life is ever evolving. Even if I had the chance to time travel. To tell myself words of wisdom that had the opportunity to save myself years of grief. I know in my heart of hearts that I wouldn’t have listened. Well, I would have been polite, and listened surface on the surface layer. In one ear, and out the other. I would have continued down that rocky road as I fully intended to. That’s the frustrating reality of it all. Fortunately, I can have a good laugh at some of the historic dismay now that it is all in my rearview mirror.
I have no regrets in where I am at in my life today. That’s the irony in this all. We are all continuing down these paths. We may intersect, and learn something from each other. Or we may collide, and learn nothing. But all those lessons meant for each and every one of us will roll out on it’s own time. These lessons come when we are ready.
Perhaps that is the exciting part of life. Each lesson is a surprise! So hang on to your hats, and enjoy the roller coaster ride. And by all means, don’t take it all too seriously. Because nobody gets out alive.
