Chinese New Year 2024, Year of the Dragon. More specifically the wood dragon. The dragon is the one and only mythical creature in the Chinese zodiac. With this mythical creature, a little magic will be sprinkled upon us all. Living near San Francisco’s China Town, electricity filled the air. Fireworks lit up the sky from dusk till after midnight. The fireworks were magnificent. I am fortunate to live in a city rich in cultural diversity.

February 9, 2024 – San Francisco’s China Town

This morning, I got to thinking about what the year would look like ahead. According to the LA Times and Laura Lau (co-author of The Handbook of Chinese Horoscopes), the dragon symbolizes strength, power, and good luck. While most of us think that dragons breathe fire, they actually breathe clouds per Lau. Lau says that the dragon denotes creativity, power, and is very confident. The dragons logic will not drag you along and will get straight to the point.

Celebrating the new year after the official new moon is a logical option for me personally. With many new moons, a lot of us in the witchy world and/or pagan traditions tend to set new intentions. With the first new moon of the new year, no matter who you are… this is an excellent time to set an intention. As the daylight continues to prolong our days, I feel as though the new year has officially started. A new light of hope is shining on all of our ambitions.

With more thinking as I tend to do in the mornings, I started to wonder something else. The dragon is a mythical creature. What if you were to meet yourself as a mythical creature? Who or what would you be? How would you act? What would your goals be? Knowing that you had some animalistic and/or mythical power to help guide you on the way, what would you do? I started to think hypothetically speaking what if I were a centaur?

If I were a centaur, I would use the agility, speed, and the stability of the centaur to reach my goals. I would use the power of the beast for strength and courage. I would trust in my carnal instincts. Use my gut feeling or my intuition to lead me.

What energy of the mythical creature would you embody in reaching your goals?

In end –

No matter what sign your Chinese zodiac falls under, I hope the dragon breathes some lucky opportunities into your life. Maybe some sort of mythical creature will take you beyond what you thought was expected.
